Between gas extraction at the process and the actual analysis lies a critical phase: gas conditioning. Raw gas from stacks, reactors or fermenters contains moisture, dust, aerosols and sometimes aggressive substances such as SO₂ or HCl. Without proper conditioning, these contaminants enter the analyzer, cause condensation, corrosion and measurement deviations – and in the worst case lead to total failure. Fresenius Instruments provides the complete gas conditioning chain from a single source.

It starts with sampling: our sampling systems extract the measurement gas directly at the process, filter coarse particles and direct the gas via heated lines to the gas cooler. The RCI gas cooler series forms the heart of the conditioning process: the RCI 100 as a compact desktop unit is suitable for laboratory and mobile use, the RCI 500 in 19-inch rack format for stationary CEMS installations, and the RCI 700 for simultaneous cooling of two sample gas streams. All models cool to a dew point temperature of 5 °C, achieving a residual moisture of just 0.86%.

The unique selling point of the RCI series is the Duran glass heat exchanger: borosilicate glass is chemically inert, extremely corrosion-resistant and does not affect the composition of the sample gas – unlike metallic heat exchangers, which can trigger catalytic reactions with aggressive gases and falsify measurement values. This property makes Duran glass the optimal choice for conditioning corrosive process gases in the chemical industry, waste incineration and wastewater treatment.
